I wrote this song about a trip my other band The Asphalt took to Austin to play SxSw in 2007. We had no other shows booked just a few showcases in Austin, so we drove all the way through just stopping for food and "refreshments". I guess everyone has a "the road is tough" song and i guess this is mine. Although I've always been more of a "create an image for someone else's story" type of writer than a "storyteller" type writer, this is a pretty good chronicling of my wanting to get home to my family after a whirlwind week. Although we didn't make a single dollar, that trip was one of the best times I've ever had in my life.
PS the traded a pillow for cold glass line refers to the art of being able to sleep whilst leaning against a van window
